Visual Communication Devices of the Future

24 02 2007

We have seen video phones hundreds of times in movies. However, why can’t we act naturally in front of videophone cameras? Conventional visual communications at a distance have been limited due to the display devices and terminals. This terminal enables showing of the surrounding atmosphere and group-to-group communication with a round display and a central super-wide-angle camera.

Pen of the Future

It seems that information terminals are infinitely getting smaller. However, we will continue to manipulate them with our hands for now. We have visualized the connection between the latest technology and the human, in a form of a pen. P-ISM is a gadget package including five functions: a pen-style cellular phone with a handwriting data input function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector, camera scanner, and personal ID key with cashless pass function. P-ISMs are connected with one another through short-range wireless technology. The whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. This personal gadget in a minimalistic pen style enables the ultimate ubiquitous computing.

Mobile Phone in the Future

Mobile phones will evolve from communication tools to integrated communication devices, media terminals, credit cards, and remote controls, according to a report from telecom research firm Berg Insight. The report examines the world’s most advanced mobile market, Japan, for clues about where the industry might be headed.
Over the years we’ve seen mobile phones morph from lunch box-sized contraptions to tiny, must-have flashy gadgets. Technology is slowly but surely weaving its way into our clothing and accessorizing our outfits.
The high-tech market research firm reports that high-speed data access, Wi-Fi functionality, high-quality video cameras, or viewing broadcast TV, are just some of the future functionalities that are on the horizon for cell phone users.

Video Games - Just Fun?

20 02 2007

Researchers say they’ve found another reason why video games are so hard to give up: They may help fulfill basic psychological needs.

In a study published in the January issue of Motivation and Emotion, investigators from the University of Rochester and Immersyve Inc. looked at what motivated 1,000 gamers to keep playing video games.

“We think there’s a deeper theory than the fun of playing,” lead investigator Richard Ryan, a motivational psychologist at Rochester, said in a prepared statement.

The gamers were divided into four groups, each asked to play different games. They answered questionnaires both before and after playing the games. The researchers used the questionnaires to look at the underlying motives and satisfactions that can spark players’ interests and sustain them during play.

Wisdom is of the future.

10 02 2007

Somebody said, that those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. I agree with that person very much, but not entirely. Our future is made up from our past and present like an ocean is made up from all streams, rivers and seas flowing into it. It’s absolutely not right that life can be lived only in the present moment. Yes, the past is gone and the future is not here yet, but in our every living moment we are thinking about the future, aren’t we? Every step we are taking, every thought, every action is done for the future and belongs to it. One faces the future with one’s past.
